NaNoWriMo!

Hey! I am happy! Because I already have 928 words on my NaNoWriMo piece! Yeah! But that means I am almost 1/10 of the way there. I have a lot more to go.

For those of you who don't know what NaNo is, it's short for National Novel Writing Month! What you do, is you come up with an idea for a novel, set a word count goal, and then write like crazy for the month of November. If you meet your goal, then Elementary schoolers get a copy of there book printed, and middle and highschoolers get a copy of there book printed AND published!

(thank you Jasmine for the explaination! Check out her blog, here)

Here's the firsl rwo pages of mine:
fPrologue 1e
I’m not supposed to exist. Nobody knows that I do. My parents are the only ones, and they’re watching me now, from Heaven.

          I am the invisible girl.

And I live in a castle.

I live in the Mallowrey Castle in the kingdom of Maledonia. I call myself Princess Melia’s shadow. I follow her everywhere, sneaking around in the walls and hiding in the shadows. I am her protector. I am going to save her life one day. Nobody knows it, but Melia is the first princess there has been in Maledonia since my grandmother.

My grandmamma was the Princess of Maledonia. Several years later she became queen and had a child. She loved her daughter, my mum, but she was so engaged in her duties as Queen and mother that she didn’t notice the plot unfolding around her. Terrorists destroyed the castle and killed grandmamma. My mother escaped and ran to a nearby kingdom. She lived there for years and married my father. Then she had me.

I had grown up knowing the story of my ancestor. After my parents passed, I returned to Maledonia where I found out what happened after my mother ran away:

The terrorists were found and defeated by a man named Jacques Tarmini. Since there was no better person for the job of the new king, Jacques was chosen. He married soon afterward and had a daughter, Melia. After hearing this, I told myself that the kingdom would never be destroyed again. I would save the princess if it was all I could do.

So that is why I am living here in Mallowrey. I am watching everything that happens here. I keep an eye on everything that happens within a twenty mile radius of the palace. But I found out recently that sometimes the big picture isn’t small enough.

fPrologue 2e

Dear Diary,

I wish I were a prince.

Princes get to do everything! They get to ‘fight for their kingdom’ and ‘rescue damsels in distress.’ But people like me, a princess, get to do nothing!

Well… we get to do some things. But they are stupid things like learning to wear super-expensive jewels on your head without them falling and scratching the super-expensive floor. My mother, Queen Minna, always says “There are few things a princess gets to do, so she needs to do the best she can at those things.”

After she says this I usually ask her what those things are.

“Looking nice and representing the kingdom.”

See what I mean? I get to do nothing. Nothing! That’s why I want to be a prince. Princes can fight and save people’s lives. What good is there in wearing a tiara? I can’t even scratch somebody with it. The Royal Smoother has to smooth the sharp corners of everything so I don’t accidentally scrape myself, or cut off my ‘beautiful strawberry blonde hair” that is ‘so precious’ and ‘so unbelievably long!’

So what can I do? What can a princess do to actually help her kingdom? I could turn myself into a boy, but with that ‘no sharp objects rule’ and the fact that none of the men in the castle wear wigs (or hats for that matter), that would be near impossible. I could escape at night and do good deeds, but I would like people to know that I am doing something, so the next princess can continue the tradition.

So I know, dear diary, that you are only a book, but if you are hiding some secret knowledge, or a secret power, please let it out! Let me see it and help me find out how I, Princess Melia of Macedonia, can make a real difference.

Frustratedly yours,
                                Princess Melia*

In other news, this is my twenty-fifth post! YAY!
